Mass Intentions
Please stop in at the parish office, call us, or email us about scheduling Mass Intentions. Please also consider using our parish Prayer List as well. We follow all the diocesan instructions regarding Mass Intentions. Thank you for cooperating with the protocols for Mass Intentions.
Individual Mass Intentions. With the exception of twice a week, each Mass may only have one Mass Intention. This intention is published and announced according to church law and diocesan regulations.
Group Mass Intentions. Twice a week, we can have a Mass with multiple Mass Intentions. Those Masses are on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m. All other Masses have single intentions.
Each week, according to church law, there may be two Masses that have multiple Mass Intentions. All other Masses may have only one individual Mass Intention. At our church, the two Masses with multiple Mass Intentions are on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. For all Mass Intentions, the requested stipend is ten dollars.
Masses may be scheduled a year in advance but, in all fairness, the number of Mass Intentions that we are willing to accept is subject to the discretion of the Parish Secretary. The Mass Intention and its donors are recorded in the parish Mass Book. The Mass Intentions are published in the bulletin each week, and are announced during the Prayers of the Faithful. In the event that a particular weekday Mass cannot be celebrated, that Mass Intention will be transferred to the next Mass with multiple Intentions that can be published in the bulletin.
Each Sunday and Holy Day, the 9:30 a.m. Mass Intention will be “For the People of the Parish.” All the Mass Intentions for Christmas and Easter will be “For the People of the Parish” as well. On Mother’s Day weekend, all the Mass Intentions are “For the Mothers of our Parish,” except the required pastoral Mass Intention at 9:30. The same rule applies for the Mass Intentions on Father’s Day weekend. Please note that, when a Mass Intention is requested for a married couple, their two names may be counted together as only one Mass Intention.
Please keep in mind that the purpose of requesting a Mass Intention for a deceased person is to pray that their soul will be released from purgatory. Reflecting on this point of church teaching puts our requests for continuing Mass Intentions into perspective. In addition to our regular Mass Intentions, our parish also has a prayer list of special intentions. To add a prayer request to this list, or to subscribe to this email list, please contact the parish office. May God answer all our prayers! Let us remember each other in prayer every day!
